Iraq Kurdistan elections turn-out reaches 78.5 percent: Iran PUK envoy

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) envoy in Iran Nazem Dabbagh said turnout in the region's parliamentary and presidential elections reached 78.5 percent. 

"No problem has been seen in the elections and according to initial results, 65 percent of people have voted for the incumbent parties of Iraq Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan," he told Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

 

According to the results, the cabinet will be changed and former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh will be installed as Prime Minister.

 

Asked whether the issue of Kirkuk city will be seriously dealt with during Kurdistan region's new administration tenure, Dabbagh said "the issue is not related only to the new administration and any one in power will deal with it according to article 140 of Iraqi constitution."

 

Also regarding Kurdish Iraqis presence in Iraq's next administration to be formed after parliamentary race on 31st of January 2010, he said according to agreements, Kurds should be given capacities in Iraqi democratic structure including in government and parliament
